National Run For Office Day 2021

National Run for Office day is a trademark of Run for Something PAC. 

Run for Something is an organization that helps young people run for office at a local level. Since launching in January 2017, Run for Something has recruited 66,000+ young people across all 50 states who want to run for local office.

National Run for office day is; Every year, they celebrate the fact that anyone and everyone should consider running for office, especially local office. 

The goal of the redesign for the website was to give the website a more clean, youthful, and inspiring feel. Something that better represented the mission of run for something day- to get young people to run for local offices!

The first thing I did was research other political sites. then I created a moodboard to present to the team and see how they felt and get a better feel for a direction they wanted to go in.

From the moodboard I explained my idea to use a ripping effect that would use to express the concept “out with the old, in with the new” for our political leaders.

The final color palette is the same as the Run for Something branding, which they wanted to keep consistent.

We tested a few different options for the banners using the color theme from the original branding. I also wanted to incorporate some of “running” images into the site, which they decided they didn’t want to use because it might confuse the main message/goal of the site.

The ripping direction was developed with the idea that it’s time that we erase that idea that only old white men can be politicians in America. Replace that with young more diverse people. The hope being that is the future of America. I made sure to find strong stock images that conveyed this message, once I compiled my images I got to work in photoshop.

The final choices that were made; clean simple youthful. the team loved the original banner but felt it was a bit busy so I simplified it and from there the rest of the branding grew. I decided not to use the green in the color palette because the colors are so vibrant I felt the green just didn’t mix well with the other 3 main colors.

I chose to incorporate a motivational and inspiring language in the design; “see yourself running”.

“See Yourself Here” I felt was another powerful language to incorporate into the ripped designs. it is time for people to see the possibilities of that they can be the change they seek.

For the home page, I really wanted to make sure the message was clear; hope. something that would inspire someone from the community to run for office.

The office’s page we decided would be a great place to incorporate some of the real alumni of run for something, show real people in the positions making a difference.

For these designs, I wanted to give a cutout feel that went with the ripped paper feel. so the choice to have the type “run for something” in the background was to give it some contrast but also to integrate some of the branding other than just the brand colors.

Lastly, for the website, I needed to design a quiz that would help people figure out what they should run for based on their interests and passions. for the quiz I kept it very simple and to the point. focusing on matching the photos with the questions and keeping them b&w for the consistency of the branding & website. the UX design of the quiz was a little challenging since I had to build the quiz on Squarespace, but we figured it out and it flows nicely.

Social Media: National Run for Office Day Campaign

The social media campaign was a success on National Run for Office Day, celebrities reposted to share the message & they received over 3,000 applicants on the first day!
