Banners for the Sons of Italy

assignment: community design class; create designs for an actual client.

the client: the sons of italy grand lodge of Massachusetts

details: group project design; design a museum style wall gallery for the display of the massachusetts lodge in belmont, the posters will highlight the history of the sons of italy in america. the goal was to attract younger generations to come and learn about the history of the italian immigrants in america. my assignment in the group was to design the banners that would go on the outside of the building to attract people to a building that is currently kinds of unnoticeable.

my concept: using bold bodoni typefaces i created a something that was attention grabbing, and that would create visual interests, instead of just informational. the banners use italian words so that it’s clear that the building has something to do with italy.

the pattern design is actually the patter of the artifact regalia chains that are part of the sons of italy history.

these banners were not chosen by the client, they decided instead they wanted the banners to be more informational, with the hopes of replacing the metal letters on the building. So i re-designed the banners with the clients notes in mind.
